CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has been selected by Rio Tinto to deliver main infrastructure bulk earthworks for the Western Range iron-ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The contract will generate revenue of approximately $250 million for CPB Contractors.

The project includes construction of structural earthworks to allow installation of new materials handling infrastructure, sustaining production at the Paraburdoo Central Facilities.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “CIMIC Group companies provide a suite of end-to-end services to our clients in the resources sector. We have decades of experience in the Pilbara. Our team will work closely with Rio Tinto to safely deliver the project on time and to requirements, to support operations.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “As we mobilise to deliver this project, we’ll be looking to create opportunities for local suppliers and Indigenous businesses. Our teams have demonstrated their disciplined approach to delivery on other Pilbara resources projects and are pleased to apply their expertise to support Rio Tinto’s development of the new Western Range mine.”

Work will commence in 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
