The final gates in the billion-dollar west concourse expansion have been turned over to the City and County of Denver at Denver International Airport (DEN).
Turner Construction Company and Joint Venture partner Flatiron Construction Corp. along with associate partners Gilmore Construction Corporation and JM Bangert, Inc. celebrated the turnover of the final two gates in Concourse A West as part of Denver International Airport’s more than $1 billion Concourse Expansion Program in Denver, Colorado.
The milestone marks the culmination of five years of work which added 16 gates to the two concourses in support of the airport’s Vision 100 program that is focused on preparing the airport to serve 100 million annual passengers. The added capacity from this phase supports airline route expansion and unprecedented passenger growth including increased demand for international travel. The expansion added many passenger-centric amenities including comfortable seating, modern restrooms, and outdoor decks with mountain views, firepits, and outdoor seating areas.
Concourse A West added 500,000 square feet of new space and Concourse B West added more than 90,000 square feet.
The project team was intentional in reaching out to people and businesses who historically have been underrepresented in the construction industry. The project generated more than $200 million in contracts awarded to the business enterprises.
“We are proud to turn the final gates of this project over to the City and County of Denver,” said Scott Bustos, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company. “This project will have tremendous benefits for the people of Denver and the passengers that travel through the airport each year. We want to thank all our trade partners for their hard work throughout this project.”
Concourse B West has achieved LEED Gold Certification and Concourse A West is expected to achieve the same.
