Turner’s commitment to sustainability and wellbeing is reflected in the achievement of WELL Platinum, LEED Platinum, and WELL Health and Safety certification of its headquarters office.
Turner Construction Company achieved LEED Platinum, WELL Platinum, and WELL Health and Safety certification for its New York City Headquarters in the Spiral. The Spiral, developed by Tishman Speyer Properties and built by Turner, achieved LEED Gold certification.
Our goal was to create a healthy workplace for our employees and guests, support our environment, and showcase our commitment to corporate sustainability. The office embodies legacy, innovation, and Turner’s “active caring” culture that supports inclusion, wellness, and sustainability. The people-first environment can be seen in the energized work café and natural light-filled meeting and gathering spaces. The heart of the workplace is the Work Café, a bustling hub with a variety of seating options that support wellness and serve as a space for gatherings and events. The mix of open and enclosed spaces provides a collaborative atmosphere while offering privacy when needed.
The project used innovative techniques to achieve high levels of sustainability. The building uses an advanced irrigation system for the terraces, using collected rainwater to maintain the plants. The water fixtures in the office were selected for their efficiency and contribute to a 35% reduction in water usage. Turner installed an enhanced fresh air HVAC system that is bolstered by bipolar ionization to remove particulates from the air and provides high-quality air for employees and guests. During the construction process, the team researched strategies to reduce carbon while preserving the aesthetic and functional requirements of the space.
“We are so proud to receive these honors for the hard work that we put into making this office into a place where all people can feel safe and be at their best,” said Lisa San Filippo, Senior Design Specialist Architect and Sustainability, Turner Construction Company. “We wanted to ensure that our people can thrive in their workspaces while also promoting sustainability. These certifications show that our work is having an impact.”
