Flatiron Construction Corp. (FLATIRON) together with its joint
venture partners, Dragados USA and Sukut Construction LLC, was awarded
the contract to modify the Lake Isabella Dam in Kern County, CA, by the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District.
The Lake
Isabella Dam Safety Modification Project, valued at approximately $242
million, includes raising the earthen main dam, auxiliary dam and main
dam control tower, reconstructing the existing spillway to improve
stability, and adding an emergency spillway.
The project is
expected to improve public safety and reduce flood risk from dam failure
to downstream communities. The improvements will also minimize the
potential of dam overtopping by raising the crest and constructing the
emergency spillway. Construction activity is expected to begin in
October 2017 and conclude in the spring of 2021.
